First Half 2016 Big Buy Favourites from Amazon UK

Trouble in the run up to Christmas giving

Amazon UK has just published a Trends Report that’s full of fun trivia about their marketplace, our big buy favourites, and what’s selling well in Summer 2016. This is potentially important as research last year in America found that 44% of shopping searches start on Amazon, whereas only 34% start on search engines (including Google). That’s a trend that will probably spread to the UK where we are generally positive about the Amazon shopping experience. Here are a few highlights from the report: So far in 2016, these are the top selling products overall on Amazon UK by sold units:

– Pure Chimp Super Tea

– Fire TV Stick

– Vintage Lightbulb

– Wunderbrow Brow Gel

– Lego Star Wars Rey’s Speeder

– Tom Clancy’s The Division

– Fire Tablet 7″ Display

– Fresh Amethyst Bouquet

– Blackstar by David Bowie

– Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Not too many surprises but Brow Gel? Looking at some more surprising and amusing trends: in May sales of bee-related products soared by 50% year-on-year. Celebrity bee enthusiasts like Joanna Lumley and Richard Branson have obviously caused quite a buzz so Amazon customers were buying bee hives and pollinating bee logs. Then in June pom-poms made a comeback amongst craft enthusiasts up and down the country with Amazon seeing a 50% increase in sales of pom-pom makers. Of course a 50% surge could be from 2 to 3 but again it seems buying trends have been influenced by celebrity fans, including Cara Delevingne, Gwyneth Paltrow, and actress Lily James. We crafty Brits just love this colourful craze, adorning clothes, accessories and homeware with homemade pom-poms. As for regional differences, Southerners started the year with the usual good intentions, buying: Organic Coconut Oil, Spiralizers, and the book “Lean in 15” by Joe Wicks. There’s also been something of a baby boom down South. Essentials such as nappies and wipes have been hitting the bestsellers chart. Meanwhile in the North of England the big buy favourites included camping gear such as portable showers, compasses, and sporks (a cross between a spoon and a fork). While, the ladies took inspiration from local beauty queens like Cheryl Cole and Michelle Keegan by choosing: make-up brushes, Aurora band night rollers, and teeth whiteners. And in Brighton our Zooland Adult Onesie was one of the big buy favourites (only kidding).
